The constant music-listening is taking a heavy toll on me. I develop a sudden interest in ALL sorts of music. And they seem to get stuck in my mind now. They get stuck in my mind all the time. For example, when I first wake up in the morning, "I Can't Take It" by Lola is the first thing that comes to mind. When I have my breakfast, Katharine McPhee's "Over It" hits me. During lunch, it's always "Love Me Or Hate Me" by Lady Sovereign. I hear music in my mind all the time, and that eventually leads me to humming (and singing when nobody's around!)
Music is addictive. Now having an eclectic taste in music, I enjoy listening to what a particular song has to tell about life. Like a mystery novel, the stories behind the songs are revealed with every play. Never will you find anything more enjoyable than listening to Nelly Furtado sing about being promiscuous, Avril Lavigne wanting to be someone's girlfriend, Chris Daughtry going home to the place he belongs, Vanessa Hudgens asking her ex to come back to her etc. Those songs are catchier than chicken pox and measles combined, believe me.
There is something about English songs that attracts people to listen to them- QUALITY. There is certainly NO WAY Chinese songs can achieve the high quality that English songs possess. I was watching the Project Superstar finale last Saturday when this particular finalist sang Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This", and gosh, she was such a disgrace to Kelly Clarkson. She is an amateur while Kelly is THE American Idol. With the limited vocal range she has, she still made the attempt to reach wine-glass shattering notes in the song, but totally ruined it. Lucky for her she lost the competition to a guy who couldn't read or write in Chinese and had to rely on pinyin to sing instead. No offence, Project Superstar fans, I seriously think the judges were deaf to put her in the finals. Malaysia must be deaf too for voting for her! I am not judging the Chinese entertainment industry by her alone. In fact, all the contestants just couldn't sing. And the 5 judges commented their singing saying they were "good". If those were the standards the judges look for in a singer, I dare to say Chinese singers are way behind the English ones.
Yes, you can say I'm biased. Come on, just listen to English songs and you'll find that they've got groove and a rich soul running through them. Why settle for TRASHY imitation goons when you can have the real deal?

I wish to add my comments on what anonymous have said. First of all, by "ALL sorts of music", I am sure Winnie is referring to all sorts of GENRES- alternative, R&B, soundtracks etc. I watched both versions of Project Superstar before and I dare to say that Winnie is right. Just listen to the contestatnts sing- pitching problems, limited range of vocals etc. The competition only reflects on the low standards of the country. Try watching American Idol and see for yourself how the contestants sing. And compare them with the ones in Project Superstar. It'll be like heaven ad earth. It is harsh for you to say that Winnie is a "banana" by what she wrote. Obscene lyrics are nothing new to English music, maybe it is YOU who are close-minded and living in the 19th century or something to comment about that. My parents who are in their 40s and 50s still enjoy the modern English songs that I listen to, and I enjoy listening to the English classics they listen to. Why do some Chinese singers sing some parts of a certain song in English but can't even get the pronunciation right? I have heard a Chinese singer pronounced "birthday" as

OK- let me for once point out my views again. Everything about Chinese songs just screams 'Safe!'. They do not really test the vocal capabilities of the singers and the melodies are somewhat predictable and formulaic. The songs just taper off mildly and become slightly repetitive with the usage of some melodic chords. Every single track is pretty much the same: the rhymes and rhythms are simple, mellow and straightforward. The songs are oh-so-boring that I'd be inspired to pull out a yoga mat and assume the Lotus position. They are most suitable for those who suffered a heartbreak (or are still suffering!) that can be likened to getting hit by a car. Yes- the songs are all about love and nothing else. This actually gets me thinking that the Chinese are so DESPERATE to discover love. No partner, can die?

Finally, I would like to RESTATE and RECONFIRM my stand that I absolutely do not support anyone here or what they wrote. I’m just correcting their mistakes. And YES I do not have the right to do so but neither have you the right to accept it. Its more of a “take it or leave it” kind of gesture. And for those who seem to misinterpret this, it’s a GOOD gesture that has NO BAD THOUGHTS incorporated in it.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Sam was only suggesting an anime NARUTO. Why do people need to pull him into a comment attack? Try and be peaceful and NO, girls are not the only human sex that actually cries or talk about their feelings. We men also do that IN ANOTHER WAY. We express our self’s differently. If p3 is a girl, well we are the future generation and as you READ & see the result, that’s a mild example of what I would do/write/comment. Well said LKF, I agree with you. In addition, I personally feel that this whole argument is leading us to no where. As Thomas said, this is just a blog post, why do we have to take it so seriously. Let us just ignore anonymous’ comments and let him do what he wants. Everyone knows who the immature one here is. Isn’t it obvious that anonymous is trying to create commotion here? I hope no one will verbally attack me for saying this: I too personally feel Chinese music cannot be compared to English music. Both are different in their own ways. It’s unfair too if we judge Chinese music quality based on competitions like Superstar thingy. I listen to both and I like both.

There is no way I’m going to discuss this topic with a person who doesn’t even introduce him/her self. That’s the first lesson of politeness. Further more you need to reframe from using foul language. You may not be perfect in English but there is no excuse for using foul language. You just treaded on the new found peace. Why?
